A Conversation with The Honorable Barbara S. Jones

Judge Jones was appointed to the Southern
District bench in 1996. She is a graduate of Mount St. Mary’s
College in Los Angeles (1968) and Temple University School of Law
(1973). Following graduation from law school, she was selected by
the Attorney General’s Honors Program to serve in the U.S.
Department of Justice, working for four years as a Special Attorney
in the Manhattan Strike Force against Organized Crime and
Racketeering. From 1977 until 1987, she was an Assistant United
States Attorney in the Southern District, serving a Chief of the
Organized Crime Strike Force from 1984 – 87. In 1987, she became
Chief Assistant to New York County District Attorney Robert
Morgenthau, a post she held until her appointment to bench.
