Professor Margaret V. Turano ’77 Appointed Associate Academic Dean at the School of Law
July 08, 2009
School
of Law Dean Michael A. Simons has appointed
Professor Margaret V. Turano the Associate Academic Dean.
Dean Simons noted that he is excited to work with Professor Turano
in “furthering our shared mission of building a great law
school.”
A St. John’s Law graduate and a member of the faculty for over
thirty years, Professor Turano, is a widely recognized authority on
New York Trusts and Estates Law. She has received the Dean’s
Teaching Award three times in the past ten years and was voted
Professor of the Year by the students in 2008. She is also
the Faculty Director of the Law School’s
Writing Center.
As Associate Academic Dean, Turano will be responsible for
faculty teaching and student learning – the “academic” side of the
institution. Those responsibilities will include curriculum,
course assignments, adjunct faculty, the Registrar’s Office,
grades, skills programs, LL.M. programs, and other faculty matters
and initiatives.
Dean Turano remarked, “I am optimistic about the future of St.
John's and I'm confident in Dean Simons’ ability to lead the School
of Law. I love the Law School, always have, and it's an honor
to serve in this way.”
