Returning to Alma Mater, Alumni Celebrate Reunion 2007
June 11, 2007
College days often produce fond memories, lifelong friendships
and humorous stories. More than 300 St. John’s alumni attending
Alumni Reunion 2007 had the opportunity to relive some of those
memories with old friends and create new ones.

On Saturday, June 9 and Sunday, June 10, members of the classes
of 1932 – 2002 ending in “2” and “7”, came to the Queens campus in
droves to celebrate the various anniversaries of their graduation
from St. John’s. More than 60 alumni and their guests also stayed
in the residence halls—for many, to experience their first taste of
dormitory living!
Reunionites (alumni celebrating reunion years) gathered on
Saturday afternoon for educational
seminars and in special suites to catch up on each others’
lives. Members of the classes of 1957, 1967 and 1982 celebrated
their 50, 40 and 25-year anniversaries with Anniversary
Suites, where they mingled with old friends and reminisced over
yearbooks and St. John’s memorabilia.
Later that afternoon, Loughlin
Society members who were celebrating their reunion years
attended a special reception in appreciation of their generosity to
alma mater. A Special Medal
Ceremony was also held to honor those alumni celebrating their
50, 40 and 25-year anniversaries; members of the class of 1957,
celebrating 50 years since graduation received gold medals, members
of the class of 1967, celebrating 40 years, received bronze medals
and members of the class of 1982, celebrating 25 years, received
silver medals.
On Saturday evening alumni and friends of the University
gathered in high style for a dinner dance
in Taffner Field House. William (’67CBA, ’88HON) and Margaret
Montgoris ’68Ed and Joseph (’82CBA) and Antoinette O’Connor ’82CBA
were honored for their commitment to the University and the class
gift of $1.7 million was presented to University President, Rev.
Donald J. Harrington, C.M. by Theresa Graves Pellman ’57CBA and
John Clarke ’55MBA, ’57L, chairs for the class of 1957.
To conclude the weekend’s events, a mass was held
on Sunday morning in St. Thomas More Church with a brunch
immediately following. After an eventful two days, alumni bade each
other farewell with joy and a hope for the future of alma
mater. “One of the great things about Reunion is the
opportunity to be back, see old friends and meet new people,”
shared James R. Gaw ’67G. “It’s great to experience the different
atmosphere at St. John’s and see the many improvements.”
