January 25, 2008

Loyal supporters gathered to root for the men’s basketball team as they faced the University of Pittsburgh on Wednesday, January 23 at Madison Square Garden in New York.  A pre-game reception was held at the Garden and more than 30 alumni and friends were in attendance.

Alumni reconnected with each other, the University and their love of St. John’s men’s basketball while enjoying hamburgers, hotdogs and cold drinks before the game.  And University representatives, Bill Lipson, assistant director of Alumni Relations and Bill Schaeffer, director of Alumni Relations, shared news about the University, including current building projects and programs.

After the reception, attendees sat together at the game to catch all the action.  And many were appreciative for the chance to get together and relive college days. “It's been many years since I attended a St. John's event,” shared Felix Joseph ’88SVC, ’90CBA.  “I had forgotten how exciting it is to be in such an environment. The cheering from the other alumni in attendance was infectious. Thanks for the re-introduction!”

The first of five pre-game receptions this season, hosted by the Office of Alumni Relations, was a success.  Alumni and friends were pleased with the reception and game and look forward to more.  “This is my first alumni event and I cannot wait for the next one,” stated Patrick Casabona ’03TCB.

The next pre-game reception will be held on Wednesday, January 30 at 5:30 p.m. before the game against Georgetown University at Madison Square Garden.
