Red Storm on the Road
February 07, 2008
More than 35 loyal St. John’s University alumni and friends
gathered at the University of South Florida’s Alumni Center in
Tampa, FL for a bit of fun before a Red Storm men’s basketball
game. Attendees networked and reminisced about college days prior
to attending the St. John’s vs. University of South Florida men’s
basketball game on Saturday, February 2.

The Tampa Alumni Chapter members were excited to see one another
and the room was buzzing in anticipation of a great game.
University representatives, Bill Schaeffer ’73CBA, director of
alumni relations and Rev. James Maher, C.M. ’84C, vice president of
student affairs, greeted alumni, commented on the importance of
remaining connected with the University and shared details about
the basketball program’s 100th anniversary, the upcoming Alumni
Reunion in June and the newest building projects on St. John’s
Queens campus. Schaeffer said the event served to enhance the tie
between the alumni and the University. “We had a terrific pre-game
reception for the men’s basketball STJ/USF game,” he said. “Besides
reminiscing with alumni friends and family it is a great way for
the chapter members to stay connected and engaged with the
university.”
After the reception, alumni and friends walked to the nearby Sun
Dome Arena to watch the game. The lively group cheered
boisterously for their favorite college basketball team and was not
disappointed! They were rewarded with a Red Storm victory
over the University of South Florida with a final score of
72-58. “It was great that St John’s had this chapter
reception so our alumni chapter neighbors can get together to talk
about our experiences at St. John’s and also see our basketball
team play and win an important game,” noted Donald McDonald ’73C,
’78MBA . “It was a lot of fun!”
