More than 20 alumni and friends gathered for dinner at the Lava
Bistro in Charlotte, NC on Thursday, June 26. Though living
many miles from St. John’s University, the intimate group enjoyed
an evening of reminiscing about college days and making new friends
with whom they share a common history.
For alumni Bill Dineen ’65CBA, ’67L and Bill Kline ’60CBA, who
have been friends for more than 40 years, the evening provided an
opportunity to relive fond memories. They were among the
first few years of graduating classes from the Queens campus and
have remained close.
Others came to make new friends and contacts. “I attended
this gathering because I wanted to meet other alumni from St.
John’s and learn about what’s going on with the University,” shared
Peter Augusta, ’62C, who was pleased to find so many alumni living
in his area. “I found out that two other couples attend the
same parish as my wife and I.”
In addition to a pleasant dinner and plenty of conversation,
attendees gained an understanding about what’s happening at St.
John’s today. Andrea Papa ’88SVC, Associate Director of
Alumni Relations, welcomed alumni and provided updates on the
University’s new initiatives including current building projects
the University Center/Academic Center, which will house both
academic and student space, and townhouses for student housing, the
recently acquired Paris location and enrollment statistics that
demonstrate an increase in interest for St. John’s academic
programs.
Alumni were pleased with the evening’s activities. They
enjoyed spending time together and expressed interest in future
gatherings including attending upcoming St. John’s baseball and
basketball games in the area and hosting more dinners.
