St. John’s University Teams With ACE Limited & XL Capital, Ltd For Insurance Internship Programme For High School Students In Bermuda, May 28

School of Risk Management, Insurance & Actuarial Science Also Hosts Gala Reception

St. John’s University’s School of Risk Management, Insurance and Actuarial Science (SRM) and the Bermuda insurance industry (in cooperation with ACE Limited and XL Capital Ltd)  present  an Insurance Internship Programme for selected high school students in Bermuda on May 28 to be held at the ACE Headquarters.

Each of the high schools in Bermuda are invited to send three (3) students who will be enrolling in college in the fall of 2009 and one (1) administrator. The students will attend multiple information sessions led by insurance professionals from ACE and XL.

“We have close and long-standing partnerships within the Bermuda insurance and education communities,” said Dr. Ellen Thrower, Executive Director, SRM and former President of The College of Insurance.  “We are especially pleased to be working with ACE Limited and XL Capital Ltd and the Bermuda high schools in this inaugural programme.”

In attendance at the Internship Programme will be Dr. Steven Papamarcos, Dean of the Peter J. Tobin College of Business at St. John’s University and Albert J. Beer, The Michael J. Kevany XL Professor in Insurance and Actuarial Practice along with other members of the SRM team.

On May 29, SRM (a division of The Peter J. Tobin College of Business) and Dr. Thrower will host its Sixth Annual Gathering of Friends, Educators and Students cocktail and dinner reception at the Tucker’s Point Beach Club in Tucker’s Town, Bermuda. This event is made possible through the generosity of Joseph and Claire Smetana. Mr. Smetana is an alumnus of The College of Insurance at St. John’s University. Invited to the dinner are industry and government leaders, key alumni in Bermuda, guidance counselors and current and prospective students and their parents.
