  “Italians in Literature” Lecture Featuring John Freccero 9:00 AM Prof. Freccero is an eminent scholar on Dante, Petrarch, Machiavelli, and other authors. Prof. Freccero’s talk offered an innovative reading of one of the most widely read cantos of Dante’s Comedy.

• The Peter J. Tobin College of Business--GLOBE Program Sponsored the First Annual Micro Finance Day 9:00 AM Dr. Linda M. Sama, Associate Dean for Global Initiatives and Professor of Management at The Tobin College of Business, along with her inaugural Global Micro-loan class, sponsored Micro-Finance Day on March 27th to promote the goals of the newly launched Global Microloan Program, or GLOBE.

• Nikki Giovanni Shares Insights on Her Acclaimed Poetry 9:00 AM On April 2, Yolande Corneilia “Nikki” Giovanni---world-renowned poet, writer, commentator, activist and University Distinguished Professor of Writing and Literature at Virginia Tech University --- shared with the St. John’s community the inspiration behind some of her most well-known poems.

• St. John's University Students “Walk for the Homeless” to Raise Awareness and Support on Friday, April 10 9:00 AM Groups of St. John’s students will be using their time off during the Easter Break to participate in the University’s Annual 5K “Walk for the Homeless” on Friday, April 10 on the Queens campus. These students will be walking from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. to support the homeless in New York City and all across the world.

• Thousands Participate in Successful Relay for Life Event Sponsored by St. John’s and American Cancer Society 9:00 AM Thousands of participants from the University and outlying community were on hand to honor cancer survivors and their caregivers, pay tribute to those who have lost their lives to cancer and raise money for the cause.

• Education Alumni Honored on Staten Island 9:00 AM As The School of Education continues to celebrate its 100th Anniversary, five prominent alumni were honored at the Fourth Annual Leaders in Education Awards Dinner at the Staten Island campus on Wednesday, April 1, 2009.

• Academic Lecture Series: Joy and Justice - Queens Campus 9:00 AM During the civil rights campaigns of 1964 and 1965, Jonathan Kozol moved from Harvard Square into a poor black neighborhood of Boston and became a fourth grade teacher in the Boston public schools. He has devoted the subsequent four decades to issues of education and social justice in America.
