• New Catholic Lecture Series Spotlights Priest Who Changed Poetry 9:00 AM Launching the Catholic Lecture Series at St. John’s University on April 6, two award-winning scholars— Ron Hansen, Ph.D., of Santa Clara and Paul Mariani, Ph.D., of Boston University — discussed innovative poet and priest Gerard Manley Hopkins.

• St. John’s Community Walks to Raise Money and Awareness for Homeless of New York City 9:00 AM St. John’s University held its annual “Walk for the Homeless” on Friday, April 10. Over 250 members of the St. John’s Community participated in this traditional event that takes place each year on Good Friday.

• Service-Learning Efforts of TCB Students Featured on Eyewitness News 9:00 AM Eyewitness News (WABC) education reporter Art McFarland visited St. John’s University’s Queens campus and the Bread & Life facility in Brooklyn to meet Dr. Dorata, five TCB student volunteers and the clients who have been served through this program.

• Academic Lecture Series: Can I Kiss You! 9:00 AM Turn Off the Violence Week presents…“Can I Kiss You?”, a featured presentation which is both entertaining and educational and sets the norm for respectful behavior. Mike Domitrz takes his audience on a journey from hilarious laughter to hard-hitting questions and then provides answers each student can use in his or her own life.

• Committee for Latin American and Caribbean Studies Hosts Free Workshops To Benefit Local Immigrants 9:00 AM St. John’s University’s Committee for Latin American and Caribbean Studies (CLACS) is offering a series of free workshops on various educational topics to benefit immigrants and their families. In addition, CLACS will offer free ESL (English as Second Language) classes at various levels on Wednesday and Thursday evenings and Saturday mornings through June.

• Forum on the Human Dignity of Women in Contemporary Society at UN 9:00 AM “This side event offered a wealth of information and successful service models to a very diverse group of participants,” says Sr. Kelly. “Through their scholarship, our faculty members are making a significant contribution to furthering the cause of women around the world and investing in the future of the family as well.”
