Biology Professor Gives Academic Service- Learning a New Twist

“I had two misconceptions,” says Biology Professor Laura Schramm, Ph.D. “I assumed Academic Service-Learning (AS-L) could only be incorporated into social science courses and that it meant working in soup kitchens and volunteering in homeless shelters. But I was wrong. It ultimately means giving back to the community and finding your own personal way to do so.”

St. John’s Awards Americo Amorim, Portuguese Entrepreneur, Honorary Doctor of Commercial Science Degree

St. John’s held a special convocation ceremony for Mr. Américo Amorim, Portuguese business entrepreneur and Chairman of Amorim Group, for his “remarkable professional success, enduring values and global vision that emphasizes sustainability” at the University’s Queens Campus. Mr. Amorim was given an honorary Doctor of Commercial Science Degree.

St. John’s Honors Public Relations Icon Howard Rubenstein With Caritas Medal at 50th Anniversary Gala

An “A list” of New York’s social elite gathered at The University Club in Manhattan to honor Public Relations icon Howard Rubenstein in celebrating the 50th year of his graduation from St. John’s University’s School of Law. In recognizing his extraordinary fidelity to the ideals of alma mater, Rev. Donald J. Harrington, C.M., President of St. John’s University, presented Rubenstein with the Caritas Medal which is given to those who have provided exemplary service to the poor and disadvantaged within the City of New York.

Founders Village Townhouse Named in Honor of Beloved Alumnus

On Friday, May 29, members of the St. John’s University community gathered on the Queens campus for the dedication of the Leo W. Pierce House, the first building to be named in the highly acclaimed grouping of townhouses collectively known as the Founders Village.
