  St. John’s Students Connect the Dots of Environmental Sustainability, Wellness and Supporting the Local Economy 9:00 AM In late June, students working as Sustainability Coordinators received a “cook’s tour” and a first-hand look at two Long Island farms that provide fresh produce for St. John’s kitchens.

• Michael A. Simons Named John V. Brennan Professor of Law and Ethics at St. John’s University School of Law 9:00 AM St. John’s University has named Dean Michael A. Simons the John V. Brennan Professor of Law and Ethics, the chair previously held by his predecessor, Dean Mary C. Daly. The appointment will take effect on July 1, 2009, the same day Simons becomes the ninth Dean in the 84-year history of the School of Law at St. John’s.

• Parking Advisory - Queens Campus 9:00 AM Due to necessary gate repair work at St. John’s Queens campus, Gate #4 located at Union Turnpike and 175th Street will be closed starting on Monday, June 29 and will reopen on Monday, July 6, 2009. The closure affects only the vehicle gates.

• St. John’s Welcomes New Students 9:00 AM New Student Orientation is in full swing at St. John’s University and students, faculty and administrators are all on hand to welcome the new students and help guide them in their new role as students of St. John’s University.

• Portrait Dedication In Honor of a Beloved Dean 9:00 AM On June 15, St. John’s School of Law and the Law School Alumni Association hosted a very special celebration for former Law School Dean, the Hon. Joseph W. Bellacosa ’61, ’87HON. In honor of Dean Bellacosa, a portrait was commissioned by the Alumni Association and was formally dedicated on this special evening. The portrait will be displayed, along with the portraits of previous Law School Deans, in the lobby of the Rittenberg Law Library.
