  St. John's Students Host Their First Food Composting Event 9:00 AM The event on July 10 provided them with the opportunity to meet Rocket Composter® inventor Simon Webb and to learn how and why, for health and environmental reasons, food waste is being diverted from landfills all across Europe.

• Ongoing Landscaping Projects Add Beauty to Campuses and Help Reduce St. John’s Carbon Footprint 9:00 AM The plantings are a sign of the University’s commitment to New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg’s “Mayoral Challenge for Climate Change for 30 in 10” to reduce the amount of carbon emissions released into the atmosphere by 30 percent.

• St. John’s Students Deepen Faith and Help Pilgrims at Lourdes, France 9:00 AM Once again demonstrating their commitment to their faith and St. John’s University’s tradition of service, a group of St. John’s students participated in Campus Ministry’s third annual service pilgrimage to Lourdes, France, this past June.

• Law Professor John Q. Barrett Delivers Lecture Before Attorney General in Washington, D.C. 9:00 AM On June 11, Professor John Q. Barrett delivered a lecture, at Attorney General Eric Holder's invitation and in his conference room at the U.S. Department of Justice in Washington, D.C., to the Attorney General and other DOJ personnel on "Robert H. Jackson and Nuremberg."

• NY Jets Running Back Thomas Jones Visits St. John’s to Speak to Offense-Defense Youth Football Campers 9:00 AM New York Jets running back Thomas Jones thrilled Offense – Defense Youth Football Camp participants earlier this month at St. John’s University in Queens, by giving a rousing speech about dedication and hard work in attaining goals in life, school and in sports.

• A Dream Comes True: Student Earns Admission to St. John’s Elite President’s Society 9:00 AM This spring, 29 new members were inducted into St. John’s University’s President’s Society. This most prestigious organization is made up of students whose scholarship, integrity and maturity are accompanied by leadership skills demonstrated by their significant contribution to the extracurricular life at St. John’s.

• The Summer Law School Prep Program Continues its Success at St. John's School of Law 9:00 AM Designed to encourage first generation college students from backgrounds underrepresented in the legal profession to consider a career in the legal field, the program enrolled 40 sophomores and 22 juniors, all eager to learn more about law school and careers in law.

• St. John’s Celebrates Graduates at Rome Commencement to Mark 14th Anniversary in Italy 9:00 AM St. John’s University marked its 14th anniversary in Italy this past weekend by hosting its Commencement Exercises on Sunday, July 19 at Scuola Ufficiali Carabinieri on via Aurelia 511 in Rome. Rev. Donald J. Harrington, C.M., President of St. John’s, presided over the graduation ceremony and conferred Master of Arts, Master of Arts in Liberal Studies and Master of Business Administration degrees to this year’s Class of 2009.

• Gate Closures - Queens Campus 9:00 AM On Monday, July 20, 2009, and Tuesday, July 21, 2009, Gates #1, 2 and 3 at the Queens campus will be closed. Public Safety advises the University community to use Gate #4 to enter and exit campus during this construction period.
