  St. John’s Participates in Yellow Ribbon Program to Assist Post 9/11 Veterans 9:00 AM Providing financial assistance to those who would otherwise be unable to afford a college education is at the heart of St. John’s University’s mission and so we are pleased to announce our participation in the Yellow Ribbon GI Education Enhancement Program (the “new GI Bill”).

• Parking Advisory - Queens Campus 9:00 AM During Move-In Weekend, August 29-30, the following Queens campus parking lots will be closed: Main lot in front of the School of Law, Employee lot next to the School of Law, Sullivan Hall lot (behind Sullivan Hall) and St. Albert Hall parking lot. These lots are closed starting at 3 p.m. on Friday, August 28, 2009, and reopen at 7 a.m. on Monday, August 31, 2009.

• Committee for Latin American and Caribbean Studies (CLACS) Receives Grant to Offer Free Adult Literacy Classes 9:00 AM

• National Organization Recognizes St. John’s Professor’s Contributions to Public Health 9:00 AM In June 2009, The National Toxicology Program (NTP) of the National Institute for Environmental Health Sciences (NIEHS) awarded its Public Health Service Medallion to Frank Barile, Ph.D., a professor in the College of Pharmacy and Allied Health Professions.

• St. John’s New Sustainability Committee Plants Organic Garden 9:00 AM St. John’s is in the process of ‘cultivating its own (organic) garden.’ The student-run venture marks the University’s most recent achievement in response to Mayor Bloomberg’s Mayoral Challenge to reduce carbon emissions by 2017. On August 18, representatives from Student Government, the Earth Club and Student Sustainability Coordinators, were joined by members of the newly formed University-wide Sustainability Committee to cast the first seeds.
