• Rev. Donald J. Harrington, C.M. Reaches 20-Year Milestone as President at St. John’s University 9:00 AM Rev. Donald J. Harrington, C.M. has been President and Shepherd to St. John’s University for the past 20 years, beginning his tenure in 1989. As he concludes two decades of service, making him one of the longest tenured Presidents in Higher Education, he looks to the future and welcomes the opportunities for the University in preparing students for the global society that lies ahead for them upon graduation.

• St. John’s Staten Island Majors in Speech-Language Pathology and Audiology Take a “Hands on Approach” to Learning 9:00 AM Speech-Language Pathology and Audiology majors on St. John’s Staten Island campus participated in a class session that was a little different last Tuesday. As part of their course in Speech Science, students built spirometers to measure their lung volumes.

• St. John’s Students Help Build Community and Faith in Panama 9:00 AM Demonstrating St. John’s University’s commitment to helping disadvantaged communities across the globe, 14 St. John’s University students and two campus ministers journeyed to Panama to participate in the Campus Ministry Plunge program.

• St. John’s Student to Address Teach-In for Justice 9:00 AM Satoya Beckles, a senior in St. John’s College of Liberal Arts and Sciences, has been selected by the Teach-In’s organizing committee to reflect on how the Teach-In’s theme “¡Presente!” is reflected in her experience of social justice initiatives.

• Graduate Students Gain Knowledge of Pediatric Dysphagia in Newest Summer Study Abroad Trip to Guatemala 9:00 AM Graduate students in Speech Pathology at St. John’s University enhanced their education and gained real-world experience during a first-of-its-kind, study abroad trip to Antigua, Guatemala this past summer.

• St. John’s Faculty, Administrators Receive Grant to Help Low-income 4th Graders Excel on Staten Island 9:00 AM St. John’s University faculty and administrators received a $25,000 grant to aid low-income families to cultivate conditions for productive parent-child collaboration in low income families during the 2009-2010 academic year. Thirty 4th grade children and a parent/guardian of each joined In Collaboration, an eight-session mathematics and science initiative funded by The Staten Island Foundation.

• Debate Society Leads in Early Northeast University Sweepstakes Rankings 9:00 AM This week's Northeast University Sweepstakes rankings place the St. John’s University Debate Society with an early lead in the year-long race.

• V.I.T.A.L. - Vincentian Initiative to Advance Leadership 9:00 AM The month of October marks the first of the monthly meetings for the V.I.T.A.L. experience – a leadership program grounded in faith and a strong commitment to service of others.
