  Academic Lecture Series and Lent 2010 - The Great Work: Thomas Berry’s Vision of the Ecological Age 9:00 AM Kathleen Deignan, Ph.D., CND , is a sister in the Congregation of Notre Dame as well as a Professor of Religious Studies and founder of the Iona Spirituality Institute at Iona College in New Rochelle, NY. In this appearance, she discusses current ecological issues and ways we can preserve the earth for future generations.

• Lent 2010: Walk with Me 9:00 AM The St. John’s University Campus Ministry Department invites you to take advantage of a wide range of opportunities for this Lenten Season. This year’s programs afford you the opportunity to reflect on your own personal as well as communal Lenten journeys of faith. Help those less fortunate, learn about problems in the world that need change, discover the basics of meditation or re-discover yourself and the presence of God in your life.

• Alumni Couples Acknowledge Their Love at Alma Mater 9:00 AM On Saturday, February 13, 2010 more than 125 alumni couples gathered in St. Thomas More Church on the Queens campus for the second annual Blessing of the Couples ceremony. The event began with a Mass that included a special blessing and renewal of the couples' marriage vows.

• Academic Lecture Series: Yéle Haiti - Queens Campus 9:00 AM Haitian-born Wyclef Jean is a Grammy Award-winning musician/producer, social activist, Goodwill Ambassador to Haiti, and a self proclaimed " diplomat for cultural evolution." A founding member of the pioneering hip-hop group Fugees and prolific solo artist, Wyclef has effortlessly crossed genres, generations and geographic boundaries with his music. Mr. Jean established the non-profit foundation "Yéle Haiti" in 2005 to provide aid and assistance to his native Haiti.Yéle Haiti's mission is to create small-scale, manageable and replicable projects that foster Haiti's long-term progress.

• Meet the Artist Lecture Series 9:00 AM Sam Viviano, Art Editor Mad Magazine, will be discussing the origins of MAD as a comic book in 1952, through its development as a magazine and its current state in the early years of the 21st century.

• Elizabeth Stylianou ‘10TCB: “Business Means More Than Numbers” 9:00 AM An outstanding student with a passion for academics, Elizabeth Stylianou ‘10TCB always possessed a special desire to help those in need. However, it wasn’t until Elizabeth arrived at St. John’s University that she discovered how to channel her considerable energies toward that worthy goal.

• Men's Basketball Debuts Nike’s Lightest Basketball Uniform Ever 9:00 AM The St. John’s men’s basketball team introduced the latest system of dress from Nike for college basketball on Thursday, the Nike Hyper Elite uniform, which is 70 percent lighter than a traditional elite level basketball uniform. St. John’s is one of eight teams in college hoops that debuted the Nike Hyper Elite uniforms this month, which celebrate the rich spirit, tradition and culture of the nation’s top basketball programs.

• St. John’s Students Take the Lead in the NYC Service College Challenge 9:00 AM Demonstrating their enthusiastic commitment to serving those most in need, St. John’s students have quickly assumed a leadership role in the recently launched NYC Service College Challenge. NYC Service College Challenge is an outgrowth of NYC Service which was launched by Mayor Michael Bloomberg in April 2009 to meet his State of the City pledge for New York City to lead the nation in answering President Obama’s national call to volunteerism.
