Spirit Night on Staten Island Campus Attracts More than 300

The Campus Center Gym was crowded and the energy was high at 4th Annual Spirit Night hosted by St. John’s University’s Staten Island campus on October 27.

More than 300 students, alumni, faculty, staff and administrators were in attendance at the festive event, and an additional 80 students from the Queens campus participated, including the Red Storm men’s basketball team, cheerleaders, dance team, and the St. John's University Band.

Spirit Night has become a popular campus tradition designed to promote campus spirit and connect the Staten Island campus community with the University’s dynamic Division One athletic teams. The event began with a student barbecue. Highlights included a pep rally featuring the St. John's Pep Band and Cheerleaders, a dance performance by the Dance Team, live D.J. music, and a men’s basketball team scrimmage. Contests and raffle prizes included:

  • Four tickets to see the St. John's men's basketball team face Villanova at Madison Square Garden on January 23
  • Two tickets to see The Lion King on Broadway
  • Two tickets to see The Phantom of the Opera on Broadway
  • Two tickets to see Wintuk at Madison Square Garden
  • Two New Roc City trips
  • Four movie tickets

Spirit giveaways such as t-shirts, megaphones and pennants were also featured at the free event.

In addition, the Office of Institutional Advancement sponsored a pre-scrimmage reception for alumni with Coach Norm Roberts to promote alumni support of St. John's University.
