Faculty Institute Focuses on Academic Service-Learning

The Office of Academic Service-Learning (AS-L) will be co-hosting a Faculty Institute on Academic Service-Learning with New York Campus Compact on:

8:30 a.m. – 5 p.m.
Bent Hall, Room 277

All full–time faculty, part–time faculty, and administrators who teach are invited to join your St. John’s colleagues as well as faculty from other colleges and universities in NY Campus Compact. The seminar will focus on:

  • How to explore or deepen your understanding of the academic service-learning pedagogy.
  • How to design or redesign your course to include an academic service-learning component.
  • How to identify ways to build a community partnership.

Dr. Edward Zlotkowski, Professor of English at Bentley University and well-known author and respected authority both nationally and internationally in the field of service-learning. Dr. Zlotknwski will facilitate the one–day workshop for faculty members who want to explore and/or deepen their understanding and practice of academic service-learning pedagogy. 

Attendance at the Institute will result in certification in Academic Service-Learning.  You will be presented with a certificate along with a stipend for attending and an additional stipend for incorporating AS-L into one of your courses in the following academic year.  For more information on this event and to register please contact:
