Godfrey
Vincent, a 2004 graduate of St. John’s and former McNair
Scholar, successfully defended his doctoral dissertation last month
at Morgan State University in Baltimore, Maryland . Present at the
doctoral defense was St. John’s Associate Professor,
Dr. Roderick Bush, who served as one of Godfrey’s McNair
Faculty Mentors. Next month Godfrey will be awarded a Ph.D. in
History with a concentration in African Diaspora; African American;
and 20th Century American History. He is currently serving as an
Instructor in the History Department at James Madison University.
The purpose of the McNair
Scholars Program is to encourage and prepare interested
undergraduates for doctoral studies through their involvement in
research and scholarly activities. Its ultimate goal is to assist
in diversifying college and university faculties. For more
